The Marks Tey -Sudbury Branch line has once again seen major work done on the trackwork, during July 2006.
The above picture shows a Class 66 locomotive arriving at Chappel& Wakes Colne Station with a ballast train during the engineering blockade at this time.
This year has seen another stretch of the branch relaid with new Continuous Welded Rail after a blockade lasting between Saturday 22nd July 2006 until the start of service on Monday 7th August 2006.
The track work this year includes the section between Mount Bures Level Crossing and Bures station, which will require the level crossing to be closed from 23:00 on Wednesday 25th July to 05:00 on Monday 31st July.
Last year the East Anglian Railway Museum had a long awaited opportunity to paint the station canopy, refurbish the footbridge and effect major repairs to the Chappel Station signalbox.Further work was be carried out this year.Principally this was completing those tasks which were not quite finished last time.
In particular, gloss painting of the signal box, refurbishment of the footbridge and painting of the station canopy were all achieved.
Meanwhile, for more information about the works on the Sudbury - Marks Tey line, see our links page to visit the Sudbury Branch line website.
The Colchester Railway Forum is web-site is intended as a forum for anyone interested in railways, but principally is aimed at those with an interest in the topic based in and around the Colchester area. It is loosely based around the East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel & Wakes Colne Station, which has its own website.(See links page.)
or at http://www.earm.co.uk
The Colchester Branch of the East Anglian Railway Museum exists to promote the Museum in the Colchester area. It also hosts an bi -monthly meeting programme and takes part in general fundraising activities. This includes running a second hand book and magazine shop at the Museum, known as The Curio Coach. Please visit the links page for details of these activities.
(The Branch meeting programme for 2006 is to be found on the appropriate page of this website.)
The meeting programme for 2007 is now being booked.
One important change from previous years is that we will now generally be meeting on the first Friday of the even month, rather than the odd months : ie the first meeting will be in February rather than January.
