The Anglia No.1 branch is part of the TSSA’s Anglia and London North East Divisional Council. The Council has thirteen branches composed of 2,800 members who work in companies in all parts of the region from Peterborough to Southend and Norwich to Cambridge.
Many branches within the TSSA are company branches. However, Anglia No.1 is a General Branch with a membership employed at:-
ADI Security, Alstom Metrocare, Amec Rail, Anglia Rail, Bombardier, Brigden Enterprises, Balfour Beatty Rail Projects, Balfour Beatty Rail Maintenance, Balfour Beatty Rail Infrastructure, Carillion, Essex Buses, Exel Europe, EWS, Freightliner, Global Crossing, Grant Rail, Great Eastern Rail, Hedingham Omnibus, Network Rail, North Norfolk Railway, Schlumberger Sema, Sea Containers, Thales Telecoms Services, Vodaphone, WAGN.
Most of our branch members are employed between Ingatestone and Norwich; the railway employees covering intermediate stations. We also have a number of active retired members.
A lively branch, we like to think our meetings are interesting and reasonably well attended.
Our meetings start at 19.30, and in 2010 they will be held as follows:

January 12 at the Red Lion, New London Road, Chelmsford.
February 2 at the Belle Vue Social Club, Colchester.
March 9 at the Belle Vue Social Club, Colchester.
April 6 at the Red Lion, New London Road, Chelmsford.
May 4 at the Red Lion, New London Road, Chelmsford.
June 1 at the Belle Vue Social Club, Colchester.
September 7 at the Red Lion, New London Road, Chelmsford.
October 5 at the Red Lion, New London Road, Chelmsford.
November 2 AGM at the Belle Vue Social Club, Colchester.
December 14 Branch Dinner at the Orange Tree, Lower Anchor Street, Chelmsford.
The meetings are usually over by 21.00hrs as we try to make things as convenient as possible for our members. Occasionally we invite guest speakers.
We have branch organisers at Chelmsford, Clacton, Colchester, Shenfield and Witham, and staff representatives for Colchester, Kelvedon and Chelmsford. We also have elected representatives at local and company level, including health and safety reps.
The branch sends a newsletter to all its members keeping everyone advised of developments, motions to conference etc. We have had a branch social/dinner for some time to which all our members, and a number of distinguished guests, are invited.
Our branch takes an active role within the TSSA, with delegates attending annual conference in order to influence the role of our union in the workplace and on general issues. We also participate in the affairs of the Anglia & London North East Divisional Council.
The branch is affiliated to the Colchester United Nations Association and four Trades Councils, those of Norwich, Ipswich, Chelmsford and Colchester; our delegates play a full part in their affairs and also that of the Essex County Association of Trades Councils. We are also supportive of our regional pensioners’ association.
