REVISED 61 AND 62 SERVICES
from 11th April 2010
A major revision of these routes is being implemented
........to give faster journey times from Colchester to stops in The Avenue
....... to give faster journey times in both directions for the Lower Wivenhoe stops
....... to improve running at times of traffic congestion in Colchester.
The 61 and 62 termini in Wivenhoe will be swapped over, i.e. the 61 will revert to its original route via the Rectory Rd – Belle Vue Rd loop, and the 62 will run direct via The Avenue to/from Wivenhoe station. This will give the stops in The Avenue a direct bus from Colchester every 20 minutes, with a 20 min journey time (compared to 27-30 min journey time under the current service). Similarly the journey time from Colchester to the Post Office and Wivenhoe station stops will be reduced from 35 min to 23 min, and buses from Wivenhoe station will get to the Bus Station in 23 min.
The 62 will have a long layover at Wivenhoe station, and in consequence the great majority of 62s will now leave Wivenhoe punctually, even in the late afternoon Mon-Fri. To further assist punctuality an extra vehicle is to be committed to the route in the weekday evening peak. The down side is that 61s will be more prone to leave Wivenhoe late at busy times.
All passengers from Wivenhoe to Colchester should now get to their stop at the appropriate time to catch a 62. If you merely turn up at the stop at random times you will end up on average waiting much longer!
All 61 and 62 departure times from Wivenhoe will be altered on Mons-Fris and Sats up to 1930hrs. In the standard daytime service (0907 to 1827) 62s will depart at 17 37 and 57 mins past the hour, and 61s at 07 27 and 47 mins past the hour (Coop times).
Return times from North Station and Colchester High St to Wivenhoe will not be altered (barring the odd minute). Evening and Sunday services will not be altered in either direction. The evening journeys will now be numbered 62A. The Sunday journeys will be numbered 61A and 62. A few early morning journeys from Wivenhoe station Mons-Fris will continue to run to Colchester via the 61 route (numbered 61A).

Tickets to the town centre are (with all operators) interavailable to/from all stops i.e. Bus Station / Queen St, Osborne St, St John’s St, Head St, High St, Greyfriars. Just ask for a return to town.
78 journeys are now operated for ECC by Network Colchester. All First tickets / passes are still valid. Cedrics return tickets are valid (weekdays).
First tickets are not valid on Cedrics buses.
Cedrics tickets are not valid on First buses.
61s from Wivenhoe in the late afternoon Mons-Fris (from mid-afternoon on Fris) are liable to irregular running due to traffic congestion in Colchester.

COLCHESTER TO WIVENHOE BUS TIMETABLE
Times are shown from North Station Forecourt (NS); High Street, Hippodrome, Stop Z (HS); and Bus Station, Stand 8 (BS).
On Sundays 78s start from General Hospital 5 mins before North Station time.
All buses calling at High St stop Z also call 2 minutes earlier at High St, Co-op bank, Stop V.
Cedrics buses also call at St Johns St 6 minutes before High St Stop Z, and Head St 4 minutes before High St Stop Z.
62/62A, 78, and Cedrics also call at Greyfriars 2 minutes after High St Stop Z.
74 leaves town via Magdalen St / Barrack St / Hythe Station Rd. They will pick up at any stop en route but you should signal aggressively as few people take advantage of this.
When returning from Colchester to Wivenhoe, the most frequent service is now from the High St stops (eight an hour, compared to four an hour from the Bus Station).
61s run into Wivenhoe via Rectory Rd / Belle Vue Rd. There are no longer any waits at the Cemetery stop.
During the 'standard' weekday service there is little point in those travelling from Colchester to Wivenhoe catching a 61, as the following 62 should arrive first. [However at times of traffic disruption it may be advisable to get on whatever comes first!].
