Maldon Carers Centre
A CARER is anyone who looks after or has responsibility for a relative, friend or neighbour of any age who is:-
. Disabled - physically or mentally
. Affected by illness
. Elderly, frail or infirm
. Suffering from a speech, hearing, seeing or learning disability
. Unable to cope with life on their own
Many people looking after a loved one, a friend or a neighbour, never think of themselves as A CARER
IF YOU ARE LOOKING AFTER SOMEONE, either all the time or for a few hours a week, in your own home or their home, THEN YOU ARE A CARER!
The caring is given as an act of love or kindness and often continues when the health of the cared-for person becomes worse. The increased role of caring can then put a strain onto the Carer and, just as importantly, the family of the Carer.
The last person to recognise this strain is usually THE CARER.
