CARE aims to provide practical help to individuals within the Colchester area whose needs cannot be met by other agencies, relatives, friends or public transport. CARE has volunteers who are willing to help others by way of:
TRANSPORT: for people unable to use buses or who cannot afford taxis, e.g. to take elderly or incapacitated persons to hospitals, doctors surgeries etc.
VISITING: for lonely or housebound who would welcome an occasional friendly visit.
HOME HELP: for those needing help with shopping or collecting prescriptions etc.
-----------------------------
Are there any limitations on the help CARE can give?
CARE does not have the resources to provide long-term regular help but tries to make an exception in the case of visiting. CARE is not permitted under its charitable status to operate outside the Colchester area.
How does CARE work?
Anybody wanting help, or acting for someone else who does, can ring Colchester 792777. A Duty Officer will answer.
If the help requested is within the scope of CARE the Duty Officer will try to find a volunteer willing to provide it and will ring the caller back. It is not possible to offer a "same day service" although we will try to respond to genuine emergencies
Does CARE charge for help provided?
CARE is a registered charity and does not charge for its services. Voluntary donations however are always welcome and, if requested, a volunteer will supply an envelope into which donations can be placed.
CARE VOLUNTEERS
All CARE volunteers are interviewed and vetted for trustworthiness. They carry identity cards bearing their photograph, first name and their CARE number, and are instructed to produce these if requested.
