PAVIS Foundation for Visually Impaired People is a registered charity (no. 1074567) based in Basildon. It was set up in 1998 to promote the welfare of people with sight loss and assist them in becoming and maintaining independence and quality of life.
By empowering people PAVIS helps them gain in confidence and self esteem whilst also combating feelings of isolation, frustration and grieving.
PAVIS offers:
- a welcoming space and mutual support for all, including families and carers of visually impaired people
- activities for young and old
- support for people as they deal with their sight loss
- specialist equipment to aid independent living
- computer training using speech software
- a place to enjoy creative hobbies, including gardening
- outreach to inform and educate
- physical exercise sessions in Billericay
- Ten Pin Bowling and Tennis in Basildon
- a visiting scheme, visiting newly registered visually impaired people
- Braille training, learning to use a Perkins Brailling machine as well as how to read in this way.
Over the years PAVIS has tried to respond to the needs of visually impaired people. We aim to provide services to meet the needs of those we work with as they arise.
