MARXMEN DRUMCORPS ARE RECRUITING
(Formally the “Braintree Dimensions”)

Braintree, Essex. The Marxmen Drum & Bugle Corps, Braintree’s Premier Show Corps is recruiting for new members for the 2003 marching season and beyond. Following a recent restructuring of the Corps and the recent favourable response for instructors we how have spots available in our Main Corp’s and our Cadet Corps. Membership is open to anyone aged 8 thru to 25.

Marxmen offer the opportunity to your people to learn and perform music. It could be playing an instrument, such as brass or percussion or performing equipment and dance sequences within our Colourguard, in a fun and professional environment.

Marxmen are essentially a competition Corps. We take great pride in representing the Borough in the British Youth Band Association (www.byba.org.uk) competitions as well as at Drum Corps’ UK (www.dcuk.org.uk) and further at Winterguard UK (www.wguk.org.uk) competitions. The main competing season starts in April and concludes with the National Finals in October. During this time we will perform at many prestigious stadiums around the country.

If you are a budding musician, we can help develop that skill. We do lean heavily on the practical development of playing an instrument but we also teach the ability to read and understand music. Throughout the spring and summer months, you will perform in Competitions, Carnivals & Fete’s up and down the country. Both the senior and cadet corps may even perform in Europe!!!

If you are interested in Colourguard, we have a comprehensive package for you too. Throughout the winter & summer, you will perform at competitions at both senior and junior levels.

Membership of a Corps brings many personal benefits that enhance a young person’s everyday experiences, Self Confidence & Initiative, Leadership & Teamwork, Self Discipline, and Physical Well Being & Fitness.

Outside of rehearsals, we have a packed schedule of social activities, for not only the members but also the entire family, and when you join the Marxmen you become part of the team. You’ll also make new friends and watch your confidence grow.

The Structure of the Marxmen has been created with a view to ensuring that all members of the Corps are looked after at all times. Our management committee is constantly reviewing changes in legislation as published. All members of the management committee & staff over the age of 18 years are vetted, by permission, to ensure that they are suitable persons, therefore safeguarding the welfare of the children and vulnerable young adults that have joined us.

If you have recently aged out of BYBA or Drum corps and want to volunteer for a challenge in a professional, friendly and progressive environment as an instructor, why not contact us!! Alternatively, if you have experience of playing or teaching music in any capacity that would benefit the corp. then maybe Marxmen is for you?

We are very proud of our achievements to date. We continue to strive towards excellent achievement in the BYBA & DCUK League along with WGUK, together with ensuring that the atmosphere within the rehearsal sessions is conductive to enjoyment and fulfilment for the members.

So whether you want to learn to play a drum, brass instruments, marimba’s or xylophones, dance and perform, why not give our Chairman - Glynn Bentley a call on 07710 108004 or log onto our website at www.marxmen.drumcorps.btinternet.co.uk where you will also find a link where you can E-mail the corps. Membership isn’t as expensive as you might think but the rewards are huge. Alternatively, if you want more information or wish to meet the Instructors in person, please once again the Chairman and he will arrange a suitable time for you to attend one of our rehearsals where you can see the Marxmen experience for yourself!!

Main weekday rehearsals are held at The Tabor High School, Panfield Lane.

Marxmen Drumcorps completed the 2002 season in Premier Class of the BYBA performing the music of Gustav Holst – “The Planets Suite” and achieved fifth place nationally during the summer months and maintained this position at the National Finals in October. This achievement being the highest the corps has ever achieved in its 30+ year history.
