Writtle Relief-in-Need Charity
WHAT IS THE CHARITY?
Writtle Relief-in-Need is an amalgamation of four old Charities:

The Charity of William Horne, founded by Will dated 1st July 1591

The original Charity of Mary Kelly, comprised in a Deed Poll dated 10th March 1868

The Charity of Peter Caesar Labouchere, founded by Will proved on 19th March, 1851

and a more modern one:
The Charity of Mary Barlow, founded by Will proved on 24th July, 1924

These charities, having as their main purpose the relief of poverty and distress in the Ancient Parish of Writtle, were amalgamated by a Scheme of the Charity Commission dated 14th January, 1977

The income of the Charity comes mainly from these Charities, but additional donations of income are given from time to time by generous donors
